Kelsey has been asking (begging) me for nigh 3 weeks now for her to host a slumber party. Well, needless to say things have been busy with family outings, family (lalalalalalalalala), and church and work responsibilities. Finally I succumbed to the asking and let Kelsey plan a "Camping Party".
Of course the first to-do was set up the tent. I wanted Kelsey to try and set it up by herself, not only for practice, but she can also pass off a goal in her workbook for church, plus I wanted her to see how much WORK goes into a party. Well, I must say she did alright for herself. I helped her only two times. Yay, goal passed off!
Next was having her clean up her dungeon, um room. Yes, the floor is visible again. I tried to get her to vacuum it for three days prior to and the day off said party to no avail. (I'm going to have to work on that one). Then it was a general cleaning of the house which mostly consisted of putting things that belonged to Kelsey away. They were gathered from all rooms of the house and she kindly obliged. Please note she payed her sister to clean the bathroom for her.
Next came "hobo dinners" aka foil dinners. Kelsey and I placed chicken, carrots, and green beans and seasonings onto foil squares and wrapped them up tightly. Onto the grill they went on low for about one hour. They turned out quite yummy with green salad and bread and butter. Dessert was ice cream cones.
The girls retreated to the backyard and jumped on the trampoline and played in the fort and on the swing set. Then, the girls seemed to disappear for about 3 hours down into Kelsey room. I suspect they were doing "make-overs with eyes shut". (It was on her itinerary). As I was putting the little one down to bed the noise started. Kids making popcorn. Down they went to watch a movie. Up, down, up down......Alas I watched a movie of my own and retired for the night.
The next thing I knew there were 5 little girls in the kitchen slamming dishes about and making noise. I got out of bed to be asked if we had any milk. Sadly Morgan finished it (which was fine, cause I didn't need it for breakfast anyways). "That's okay, we'll find something else to eat" I checked the time, 6:10am. So down they went and I went back to bed. At 9:00 I got up and began breakfast. Muffins, strawberries and blueberries, orange juice. Of course they were all asleep by then.
I was fine, really I was, except for the fact that I had to keep peeling my eyes open. My left eye was so tired that it just watered and watered all day long (after a GOOD night's rest it is happy again). Alas I went to work. I was fine till about 4:00 pm. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks...sadly I am not as young as I used to be. My energy reserves had been spent. Luckily I got a bit of a second wind and managed to work well the rest of my shift.
So today I'm recovering from the unslumber party. Want to to know what else? They never did use the tent, and I need to take it down so I can turn the sprinklers back on and save my grass from getting any browner. I believe that will be our first and last slumber party of the year :) Sweet dreams.
I must admit I'm not really looking forward to the age of slumber parties. My nephew was living with us when he had one and not a stitch of sleep was had by anyone. I'm sure the girls had fun though. I like the idea of a camping party...although it would be better if the tent was used!
ReplyDeleteAhh yes. The UNslumber party...
ReplyDeleteDoes caffeine help? Like Dr. Pepper or Coke every now and then?
Where R U working now?
I recall some "unslumber" parties at the house on Park Street, and your mom's yummy breakfasts that came WAY TOO EARLY...
ReplyDeleteGood times!
