Kelsey's Birthday

My disclaimer: As of late when I add photos, they always load in backwards order. So here's the time from late to early! Cousin M. enjoying some cake.

Making a wish

Do you like the candles? They each had a different color FLAME! You could see it better in the dark though.

WOW! I am the mother of a ten year old! When did that happen?
Dear Kelsey,
I remember finding out I was pregnant. I was so happy and excited. Of course about 2 seconds later the every-waking-moment-sickness kicked in and it felt like was pregnant for 3 years.
Finally about six months along I was able keep food down and enjoy the little bumps and wiggles of this new life inside me. We told the family at Easter while everyone's name was written on their Easter egg place card, we made an egg that said "Baby Davis" I remember finding out you were a girl. Thoughts of making you a blessing dress were so exciting to me. I found a pattern, and fabric and I walked up the hill from our apartment to my friend Nicole's. She helped me cut fabric and piece some of it together. Unfortunately you were so anxious to come into this world that I was having pre-term labor and just not feeling well. Luckily your Grammy Rose took over and finished your blessing gown.
When I went to the midwife for my weekly check-up she discovered you were breech. I walked over to the hospital (Across the street from the medical office!) and had to schedule an appointment to try to have you turned around. The lady at the desk said she had something open in 3 weeks, but right then the doctor who worked with the midwife came by and said "Oh no, she needs to come in tomorrow." Well, if that didn't make me nervous! So the next day I made Dad come with me and I laid down on this exam table and the doctor took an ultrasound and didn't like what he saw. He said you were really little and my amniotic fluid was low. Apparently that is not a good combination. Well, there I was and 3 doctors were pushing and tugging at my belly trying to turn you around. It hurt so bad. I thought I was being ripped open right there! Boy was I glad when they STOPPED! They sent me and dad to another room to monitor you because all the pushing and tugging got you kinda upset. I had to wait right there till you calmed down! As Dad was drifting off to sleep (typical) the doctor came in went to the telephone in the room. I saw him dialing some numbers and heard him say "This is Dr. V. we need to set up a C-Section for Debbie Davis tomorrow." WOW!! I was soooooo shocked and stunned. When I pictured your birth, a major surgery was NOT a part of it. So, dad and I didn't even bother to go to our Lamaze class that night (What was the point?) and we decided to out to dinner. It was the last time we ate together as just a couple. After dinner we went home and I tried to get some rest to keep up my strength for the recovery after surgery.
We were supposed to go to the hospital at 10:00 am for surgery. I packed and went to bed. Daddy of course was sleeping soundly (so not fair!). I tried to sleep, but was still having labor pains. Then at 2:15a.m. my water broke! Ha! Time for baby! I woke up Dad and we went to the hospital. I had to change into one of those lovely gowns. All these people were prepping me and poking me with needles. One gal, a student nurse couldn't get the IV in and I was so tired of being poked I just wanted to throw her across the room (keep in mind my contractions were pretty darn strong by this point and I was in A LOT of pain!)
Well, I had to walk down to the operating room and get my epidural. Another needle! But it was worth it. My legs got all warm and fuzzy feeling!
Daddy came in and sat by head and held my hand. I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO grateful to have him there. It really helped be not to be so scared.
Dr. V. started the operation at 4:39 am. Kelsey, you came out bum first at 4:46. I was so happy to hear you crying! It was the most wonderful sound in the whole wide world! I couldn't hold you yet because they were sewing me up. I got to hold you in the recovery room. You were so little and cute and hungry. I fed you and then Daddy gave you first bath and brought you to me with a little pink bow stuck on your head. I love you Kelsey. I'd do it all again for you.
Love,
Mom

And by the way, you officially get the award for still looking so much like your darling darling baby pictures! Look at how young we all were. I'm sad for the reminder that it's not just the kids aging....hmmmm

Looks like you had a great party and the Autumn settings are absolutely gorgeous! Go you! Happy Birthday. Love you!

  2. Debbi,
I don't remember working on the dress but I am sure we had a good time. I do remember being surprised that she came before the scheduled c-section and how nervious you were. It feels like such a long time ago. I too can't believe that I have a 10 year old. Happy Birthday Kelsey!
