Goodbye Kate

This is Kate Dixon. She has been coming over to our house once or twice a month since Morgan was 5 months old. For those who don't know, Morgan was diagnosed with hearing loss at around 3 months of age. Morgan failed his newborn hearing screenings and we were refered to an audiologist who performed an ABR (Auditory brainstem response) test on him. He has been fitted with hearing aids, and (now) wears them quite well.

Kate was assigned to be Morgans case worker in the PIP (parent infant program) program through the state of Utah. She came over and brought activities and games for Morgan to play, so she could monitor and chart his progress. Morgan LOVED having visits from Kate.

Unfortunately, Kate lives in Colorado and commutes to work every week. Well, you don't have to think too hard to figure out that she can't afford the gas anymore. We had our last visit from Kate on Wednesday. I really loved having her to help me with Morgan, with teaching me some sign language to use with him, and explaining to me how to help him wear his aids, or how to go about helping him learn to use his words more effectively.

Kate has also been there to help me know who to call when our insurance wouldn't cover Morgans ears, or letting me vent about the 6 months or so when all Morgan did was pull his hearing aids out all the time. I've had a great time getting to know some things about her. I really am missing Kate already.

Thanks Kate, for all you've done for us. We love you.

  1. Oh, she looks absolutely fantastic. How sad to have her stop coming (but happy for her not to commute...yikes!) Your kids are just darling! How cute.

  2. Hi Debbie,

Thanks for the link to your blog. It made me quite sad to think about all the fun times we had together. I was serious in wanting to keep in touch and know how Morgan is doing – although I know he will be wonderful – he already is.

Please say hi to him and the girls for me. I will send some pictures of our ranch and the animals for Morgan and the girls. If you ever come down south you must come visit.

    Kate
